Error during Domain Join

I am having trouble when I try to get a Windows 2000 Professional PC to join
my domain. When I change it from workgroup to domain, I get the following
error meaage.

“The following error occurred validating the nameâ€example.microsoft.comâ€.
This condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. For information about
trouble shooting common DNS lookup problems, please see the following
Microsoft web site: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=5171
The specificied domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

I went to the above Microsoft web site and it wasn’t any help. This isn’t
the first PC to join the domain. I removed the Microsoft client, TCP/IP and
file and print sharing. I have also done ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig
/registerdns. I am at a loss at what the problem it. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

This error usually occurs because the client computer is not pointing to the
DNS server that holds the SRV records for the domain. An example would be
putting your ISP's DNS server in the properties of TCP/IP for DNS
resolution. It should be the DNS server set up for the AD domain.

I have put the IP address of the two servers that are the AD's. In the
activity section of Network connection there is no packets being received.
Any more suggestions??

I have put the IP address of the two servers that are the AD's.

On the client computer in the properties of TCP/IP - DNS tab input the IP
address of the DNS servers for your AD domain in the section titled "use the
following DNS server"

Does one of your "two servers that are AD" have DNS installed on it? If so
use THAT IP address for DNS on the client.

The error details the problem quite well. You can't join a domain if you
can't resolve a Domain Controller thats authoritative for the targetted
domain. This implies that you have to have connectivity on the physical
network + resolution to contact the DC. Name resolution is not an option
with W2K, whether it be provided by hosts file or private dns server.

removing network componants from client: TCP/IP adapter, File sharing, Microsoft=

Deleting every link to 192.168.0.3 and to the domain name in the Registry of the clien=

Re=C3=AFnstalling network componants,
New attempt to rejoin,
Executing the same operation with another Userid (same role: administrator),
Changing from a static to a dynamic local IP-adres on the client.
