Internet Explorer will not connect

I'm running Windows XP SP2 with all the latest updates. When I run IE, it
simply sits there at a blank screen, will not load any websites. If I
attempt to open local files, it will open them without issue. I am able to
ping the sites without issue. I have Opera on the machine, and it is able to
connect to all sites without issue. I have attempted the winsockfix without
success. I had also tried upgrading to IE7b2, but it did not fix the issue
so I removed it back to 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

Yes, my problem, too. Firefox work fine, but IE6 does not load on ANY
page, not even MS Update. Tried IE7 but can't go back; it does not
show in Add/Remove Programs.

How does that have anything to do with beta software? Are you saying 6.0sp2
is beta? Both posts point out that IE does not work BEFORE upgrading. The
upgrade was an attempt to fix it which didn't work...

Timothy, I believe that Richard was just joking to ryalder for him trying
IE7.0 and not being able to return to 6.0. He didn't post a suggestion at all.

I have the same problem as you (and entered a now post today on the issue).
It is the second time in 3 weeks it happens to me. The previous time we used
the drastic solution of re-imagining the whole HD. I don't wanna go over that
again. There must be a way to fix IE's browsing! Today I've already reset the
sockets twice, re-installed XP SP2 twice (which is Microsoft's recommended
solution to resolve most issues on IE and Outlook Express), and nothing!

The interesting fact is that both ways IE stopped browsing were related to
me removing HP/Compaq Bluetooth software/drivers from the laptop, and running
Defragmentation 3 times in a row. I don't know if there's a link or not, but
these were the two coincidental things I did prior to IE failing this and the
last time.

I'll let you know if we find a solution.

Timothy,
I recovered IE by doing a System Restore to prior my removal of Norton Go
Back last Friday night. It is now working fine. Based on other postings
involving people experiencing the same problem, I guess that Symantec/Norton
applications have been messing around with files they shouldn't.

If you have done something involving a Symantec application (Anti Virus,
Webroot, etc), I recommend running System Restore to before that point.

I'll try to find a way to remove Norton Go Back without affecting IE again.

Good luck,
Claudio

That definitely isn't the cause of the issue on my pc. Other than SureThing
CD Labeler, I don't run any software that isn't freeware on that particular
pc, so I have Avast Antivirus and Sunbelt Kerio firewall. Other than
hardware, the pc is identical in installation to another of my pc's that work
fine...and the ONLY problem I have on that one is IE. I don't use windows
update (windiz update plugin for Opera), so it still has all the updates too,
just I have 1 particular site that doesn't like any browser but IE6 (even
IE7beta2 fails on it), so it would just be nice to have 1 pc I can use that
site on, since my other desktop and laptop both have the IE7 beta on.
