Internet Connection Options

Okay, let's try this again. I found the "Never Dial a
Connection" option in the Internet Options settings. It
was already selected. However, my computer keeps dialing
out without me starting the AT&T connection app. It opens
the app itself and then proceeds to the "connecting"
dialog. This has been going on since I installed XP Pro
earlier this year. I would like to be able to work offline
without having to cancel the connection 5 or 6 times
before I can even get to "File"-"Work Offline". I have
searched help and support and cannot find a solution. I
did not have this problem with Widows 98 or ME.

Look in Start>Run>MSCONFIG>Startups for any application running in the
background which may be trying to connect (e.g., Windows Automatic Update
utility, anti-virus).

Also check your system for hijackware (e.g., a dialer):

These days most of us are recommending HijackThis: Post your files to the
forum mentioned on the above page. Some of these bad guys have started
blocking users access to AdAware's and other's pages! More on this at
http://www.spywareinfo.net/sep16,2003.

If you cannot access the page to download HijackThis, use this link:

If you find you need CoolWebSearch Shredder, use this link:

(30 Sept-03: 1.21 is the latest version. Get a fresh copy of CWS Shredder
before each use.)

Hi Bill,

Disable the "Remote Access Auto Connection Manager" service.

1. Click Start | Run | CMD
2. Type the following commands one by one:

sc config rasauto start= disabled
net stop rasauto

Then, you should be able to avoid the prompt.
