Internet Options -

I use windows XP SP2. I have a LAN connection through which I normally
connect to the internet. I also have a dial up connection to an ISP, which I
use only when the LAN connection is not available. In the internet options, I
have ticked "Never dial a connection". But I find that when I am already on
the internet using LAN, the computer automatically keeps dialing through the
modem my ISP. I keep cancelling the dial up procedure, but automatic dialing
continues. What can I do make the computer obey the selected option of "Never
dial a connection"? Can anyone please help?

Hari,
In OE, check the following:
In OE> TOOLS> Accounts> Mail/News Accts> Select one mail/news acct at a time> Properties button> Connection tab> Uncheck the box, "Always connect to this account using".

You may also need to check all your programs that utilizes automatically updating, in the options/preferences/tools section of the program. Uncheck anything that uses automatic dialing. This is true also for media players that have a radio component, such as Windows Media & Real Player.
