If Linux is so Bad, Why is Microsoft so Interested?

Anyone whose sig reads --- Long live Fat32! --- should be paid attention
to, because?

Well, let's see. From your other posts in this thread .....
"You are truly clueless...."
"When will you start showing your brilliance?"
"if you want everything for free, have the balls to steal it"
"I think you are actually proud of your ignorance."
"clearly points to ignorance"

Ok you seem to be a Linux expert, tell me why Ubuntu (last 3 versions),
PCLinuxOS and Mandriva won't even boot up with the Live CD on my system. But
I do have a nice set of 6 Linux coasters.

Here is the spec's

Asus M2N32-SLI DLX MB
AMD X2 4200 CPU
2 Gig's Mushkin PC6400 Ram
ATI X1900 XTX 512 mb
2 Seagate 160 Gig SATA II drives in Raid 0
2 Maxtor 120 Gig SATA Drives in Raid 0
2 Samsung DL 18X DVD SATA drives
1 WD 250 gig USB external drive
Sound Blaster X-Fi XtreamMusic
NEC 6 port USB2 card
Misumi USB Card reader/floppy drive combo
550 watt Enermax Liberty PS
LG 20" widescreen monitor (DVI cable)
Logitech G15 Gamer Keyboard
Logitech G7 Gaming Mouse
Logitech Freedom 2.4 Jotstick
Saitek wireless gamepad
Logitech STX webcam

This system works fine with Vista. It is just as fast as XP pro was on this
system and I have not had one BSOD. I cant even say the newer Linux distros
are bad or good because it just wont run the live CDs or install on this
system.

Twisting the tails of trolls who are busily promoting an OS that has
nothing to do with this newsgroup and spreading FUD, is one thing.
Praising what is arguably the second worst file system of all time, is
another.

Have you visited the ubuntu newsgroups? Full of snarling snarkies whose
advice for those with a linux problem is to "go look it up." Yet another
reason not to go with linux.

That's an improvement. It used to be RTFM.

It's a known problem with that mobo. Must be a bug in the kernel. Hopefully
it'll be fixed and you can try later. See the bug report here ...

Having just returned from China, I can say 90% of what is still used is
pirated and it has been this way for as long as I've seen it, however
seeing more Linux everywhere.

For China to play ball with the WTO and the USA, official China has to go
legit, and the gov't is increasingly looking to Linux for cost effective
general computing.

Its not cost effective for the USA to look to Linux were our labor is 10x
the cost of China, or Vietnam or the PHilippines. But for the 3rd world,
there is the economics to develop open source on a large scale.

Japan just crossed over the major Software divide into OSS. They want
to reduce their dependence on MS.

I guess it becomes a bit of a chore for those who know so little about how
computers function. The Winthink way is to click, click, click and have a
wizard do all the thinking. This makes it easy for users to do things
without ever understanding how a computer works. However, when one is
confronted with a problem that the wizard writer failed to create a button
for, the Windoze user is left with an unsolvable problem. Harry, you're a
case in point. You had a problem with your MBR and were told repeatedly
what you needed to do to fix your problem. I guess because there was no
Windoze wizard to accomplish it, you were forced to RTFM an article on how
to do it. You proved incapable of reading and UNDERSTANDING that article.
The result? You decided to come here and shit on Linux and Linux users who
attempted to help you. You are a ****ing Wintard in the extreme. <snort>

Love and Kisses,
Doris

Hi Felix. I really don't remember and I can't be arsed ATM to dig out
the paperwork, as it's been a couple years. If I had to make a guess
off of my memory, I would say approx a $50 difference. The cost with
Windows XP was the most expensive, the cost with a flavor of linux was
slightly less, and lowest price (but not by much) was no OS. OTOH, when
I purchased a server from Dell, the cost difference w/o the OS was
hundreds of dollars.

You think BG and the company will spend millions of dollars (allowing piracy
and R&D) for nothing? And BG is smart enough to know that he can't
accomplish his mission as an official figure of the company, but other
governments are also smart enough to know he is with or without the title.

The final battle is just about to begin..

I question that because China is well known by research and educated
business communities for lacking of creditable statistics and source of
information on almost everything.

Even locals won't know much about anything other than the province of their
residence. I always feel curious about when someone, especially a
foreigner, addresses that they know almost everything about the country for
locals couldn't even possibly be.

Ha, so we have the same problem, but no, I don't have it now. He is trying
to use the same old game which made Windows in every room. But that might
not happen this time.

So, technically speaking, you have been mostly in Shanghai as you must know
HK is nowhere like those inner cities.

The piracy rate is very high and that's undeniable but for most large
corporations that I have been working with, they don't use pirated copies.
So if using my samples, that will be less 10%. But we all know that's not
be a correct estimate.

In any case, my post was a friendly reminder for being careful on judging
this country, and since you have been there for so long, you should know
why. Sometime, we don't know that we're creating our own enemies.

Yes. But, I am not Chinese, but I've seen a lot to know China was a
sleeping giant that has been awaken, and it has done whatever it did to
go from zero to 100 mph in 20 years quickly. Now that its near 1st world
status, it is being pressured to play the 1st world game: copyright,
human rights, etc., and that's how we get to Vista and Linux, politic hat
off now.....

Yes. We are at a turning point with opportunities and challenges that never
have been seen before. Play wisely, everyone wins. Play nasty, costs can
be unbearable.

Many don't know this is actually an international newsgroup as this company
is now directing users around the world to here. Out of goodwill, I tend to
remind people be cautious when judging other countries or cultures, and hope
you don't mind.

Take care and have a great adventure! Shanghai is a lovely city but I like
other cities (e.g. Beijing) much better.
