IE6 refuse to open .doc and PP files

I try to open my intranet documents in their respective programs but IE6
seems to 'grab' the files. (rather kidnap..)
How can I change, so my Word program i.e. opens my .doc, and PowerPoint
opens my .ppt files.

Right now, when I try to open a .ppt or .pot, I get a IE6 version of a PP
presentation.
Very confusing

Hi Alan and thanks a lot.
PowerPoint still misbehaves a bit. When I click a .pot link, Powerpoint do
open but treats the file suffix as if it is a .pps and starts as a
presentation. The program does'nt give any option to go 'back' to editor
window.
Kind of weird..
