Word Viewer 2003, Outlook Web Access, and IE6

XP Pro SP2. MS Office is not installed. Only PPT, XL, and Word 2003
Viewers are installed.

I'm using IE6 and Outlook Web Access to open a public folder email
account.

The email message has a Word97 .doc attachment.

I double-click the email message to bring it up in another browser
window.

I single-click on "Word97file.doc" to see the attachment.

It opens another browser window, but all I get is a funny looking MS
icon.

Any idea what's going on? Identical PCs in the plant open the Word97
file attachment just fine.

Does it have to anything to do with the file type registry, or DDE?

Explain? If it's a link use right-click and tell us what menu items
are allowed and in particular which one is bold (e.g. the default action
for your single-click.)

FWIW I would expect that you might have to do a manual download
and open the downloaded file or drag it to Word Viewer.

Describe it. Perhaps you mean you see an image placeholder?
E.g. 3 geometric shapes of different colors? That happens when
the properties of the file don't match any defined (and allowed)
filetype assocations. You can also see it when features have been inhibited
by options in the Advanced tab or in the Security tab. Right-click Properties
could give you more information.

Also, what is in the Address bar? If it is a URL for more HTML you could
use View Source (e.g. Alt-V,c) to get supplementary info for the right-click
Properties. Etc.

Possibly. E.g. when accessed via Folder Options, File Types tab.
You don't have enough information yet to know for sure what is wrong.

BTW in case there are some particular diagnostics available for OWA
I am cross-posting this to Exchange Clients. I have never seen OWA.

My current work around is Save Target As...

Yes, I get the image place holder.

Thanks for your help!
