Open or Download Powerpoint files in IE6 fails

Hi
When a URL addressing a PPT file is typed in the IE address bar I receive
the dialog to open or save it correctly but when I click both on Open or Save
IE tries to dowload the file from the server but nothing happens.
It seem that happens with ppt files more than 500-600 Kb size.
Using small ppt files everythings works fine! i can open them or download.
I cheched the server for the MIME and they are defined, also I checked the
File Type extensions in My Computer and they are correct too.

The server is Win2003-IIS6 and the clients are XP SP2 Office 2003, IE6 SP2

Can someone to help me understand where the problem is?

Thanks

Hi vmax :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

First, empty your Temporary Internet Files.

Then check the setting for the size of the TIF's cache to be sure that the
space allocated for the TIF files is larger that the size of the file(s) you
want to download.

Normally, the size of the TIF cache does not have any affect on the size of
the download files, unless, the download files are larger than the amount of
space you have set for TIF's. Usually 20 MB is sufficient for the TIF's,
however, you may need to temporarily increase the TIF's cache size to be
larger than the file(s) you are downloading if you want interrupted
downloads to resume.

Keep in mind that, if the cache is normally too high it uses too large a %
of disk size and it wasn't designed to work with really large caches and
will sooner or later just stop working. Thus, previously cached files will
still be cached, but, any new files won't be. Thus, 20 Mb should be
sufficient for normal use, as long as it is larger than any files you are
downloading if you want to resume.

Hi Jan

I already did what you suggest without results.

Not all the Powerpoint presentations fails.

There will be something which blocks the download.

I think the problem is at server side but sincerely I don't know where to
find it.
I checked the IIS 6 configuration and it seems ok.

Any other suggestions ?

No...sorry. I have never had that problem with any PPT files, and I work
them every day. The only other thing that I can suggest is that you also
post this to the PowerPoint newsgroup, which I am cross-posting this message
to, as someone there may have had this experience and/or be able to help you
with this kind of problem.

Hope this helps.
