IE 6 Red X & Page Cannot Be Displayed Problems

Ok Brainiacs
Repeated sessions with MS Customer Support, reinstalling
IE 6, Norton Systemworks haven't solved this mystery.
After loading IE 6 recently on Win98 system I started
having issues with inconsistent page loads. Where there
was once a hyperlinked popup, or webpage clickable button
there is now a Red X in a white box. Or, the frequent
message Page Cannot Be Displayed.
Even reverting to previous IE 5.5 install didn't resolve.
Any suggestions, assistance or condolences would be
appreciated!
