Chronology: about 2 weeks ago, the browser became
hijacked by spyware. Spybot Search & Destroy found &
removed multiple items. Ad-Aware found & removed

Norton AV locally, & Panda on the internet found no
viruses.
ME's system restore did not resolve the issue.
Clean boot troubleshooting did not resolve the issue.
Pest Patrol found multiple other items. After removing
them, "page cannot be displayed".
Repairing IE 6 did not resolve the issue.
Uninstalling IE 6, returning to IE 5.5 did not resolve the
issue.
An IP address is being delivered by the DSL provider. [
No firewall. I know; please, lectures. ] We can ping IP
addresses & Friendly names of many websites, so we can get
to the internet. Thus, TCP/IP is working. I think that
IE is broken.
I installed Netscape 4.7, but the problem persists. Thus,
I think there must be some file or group of files used by
IE & Netscape that are broken.
Other than a clean install, or FFR [ fdisk, format, re-
install ] what can be done?
