IE 6 and the dreadful Red X's

I know that this subject has been covered a million times, but I still cant
find an answer! Windows 98 SE, 400 mhz. IE used to work fine and then all
of a sudden I got red x's. Images on certain webpages dont show up. Yes
the option under advanced is check for show pictures. Yes I have checked
the encoding. I'm suing Yahoo SBC Globablnet dsl. But I'm not using their
browser. On Netscape everything works great no X's. This is really
annoying because Quicken requires IE for my bank on the web.. If anybody can
help please! Am advanced enough that I can make edit to Registry if
necessary.. thanks!!

Check if a program running in the background is interfering with Internet
Explorer. Temporarily disable all Norton programs, including anti-virus, win
doctor, recycle bin protect, and clean sweep. Does Internet Explorer work
properly now?

Disable any firewall or ad-blocker.

Perform a repair of Internet Explorer. From Control Panel select Add/Remove
Programs. Scroll down to Microsoft Internet Explorer and highlight it. Click
on the Add/Remove button. When the IE Tools menu comes up, select Repair.
Click OK.

If repairing does not work, uninstall and reinstall IE. At the same IE Tools
menu, select "Restore the previous Windows configuration". Then reinstall
Internet Explore.

You can also access the IE Toolbar by clicking Start > Run and type
