http 404 file not found

We are encountering a problem accessing a select few
websites that return with the above messege. Any website
associated with Major League Baseball (i.e.
http://chicago.cubs.MLB.com) returns this messege. The
website will start to open then close immediately with the
the error messege "http 404 file not found." This only
occurs on MLB websites and we have had no problems
accessing any other site. I downloaded the fix recommended
by microsoft Support (update 824145) but that has not
helped. My ISP provider worked on the problem for 30
minutes and gave up with no solution. Any suggestions on
how to solve this problem?

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS

Checked HOSTS file and no reference to website found.
Renamed it anyway, however, same problem in accessing
site. Also deleted files, including all offline content,
in Internet control panel and reset TIF to 50mb. Still no
improvement.

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at

Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
