history drop downs

I find it annoying to see the drop down history when
typing in the search bar of the browser. I guess some find
it handy as a quick reference of previous sites, but it's
a pest to me. How do I delete this feature? Clearing the
history just removes the drop down from the address bar
and not the search bar of the search engine.

IE>tools>internet options>content>autocomplete.
The item is 'forms', choose your action.
To delete individual search engine entries: select the form fill area>down
arrow to the offending item>delete key. if you then position your cursor
over the selection you can continue to delete unhindered.
