History file is clearing itself out too often

I'm having a problem with the History folder. It seems to be clearing
itself out much more frequently than every 10 days, which is the setting I
have made in ID options.

It's been dropping the history files sometimes more than once/day and it's
annoying as I frequently go back to urls in the drop-down address bar.

Do you have privacy-enhancing or track-erasing software on your computer?

No, not that I'm aware of. I have ad-aware, spybot etc, have had those
programs for eons and they've never caused any problems.


This just started happening suddenly a few days ago.

It could be that your History file has become corrupted/damaged. See this
site for how to totally delete that folder (it will be recreated as empty
when you reboot): http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
Note: You must be logged on as an administrator of another account to
delete the History folder in the problem account. (All this is assuming you
are using XP)
