HELP! re UNREGMP2.EXE ENTRY POINT NOT FOUND

R

Rob Sperberg

While installing Windows XP Professional over a useless
Windows XP Home Edition, I encountered the following error:

UNREGMP2.EXE ENTRY POINT NOT FOUND
The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be located in
the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL

What can I do about this? The computer now will not boot
up, and when I try to reinstall, I get the same message.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN GIVE ME.

When the problem occurs, press Shift +F10 to bring up the
command prompt. Then type taskmgr.exe in the DOS window
and press Enter. The Task Manager should be started. If
not, try to press C+Shift+ESC. In the Task Manager
program, select the error messsage window in the
application list and click "End Task". In the process
list, terminate the unregmp2.exe program. Exit the DOS
prompt window and resume the installation process.

I started taskmanager and tried to end the task "unregmp2.exe" as
recommended but I found I could not end the task or get the error
message to go away. I then clicked on the "process" tab and
successfully ended the process "unregmp2.exe" which killed the task as
well. The repair of Windows then concluded successfully and everything
is up and running now
P.S
You may have to do this a couple of times before it works!

Your solution (via process tab) worked perfectly for me also (after inability
to get rid of the error message) - thanks.
