Hardware profiles & desktop icon locations

How can I keep my desktop icons in the same position through mutliple hardware profiles (not user profiles). I have a notebook PC that I use in a port replicator, in a docking station, and undocked. My desktop icons have different positions for each of these hardware profiles. I would like to be able to put the icon in one place and have it stay there whether docked or undocked

Any ideas?

I think I may have figured this out myself, although no real fix. I had different screen resolutions for the different profiles, which will cause icons to be reorganized. I just wish the reorganization were not such a drastic mixup.
