Hi everyone,
I'm trying to write in japanese on my computer but it doesn't seem to be an
option for windows xp home edition. Can't download the global IME wich is for
Office xp and other windows. What do you recommend me to do? Thanks in
advance.

1. Open Windows XP's Help and Support Center.
2. In the search box type: East Asian , and hit your Enter key.
3. Click on "Install East Asian language files".

Thanks a lot. I fell a bit dum (I've been looking for this for thre days).
Apparently it worked, since the computer restarted itself, but I don't see
any changes (icon on the tool bar allowing me to switch languages) and I
still can't write in japanese on word. I'm will try a little harder. Thanks
again.

dear friends

i have exactly the same problem.

i bought my pc with xp home installed and i do not have a cd; just the
sticker with the genuine thing key numbers and all.

when i follow the way you describe to add east asian language support it
asks me for the win xp sp2 cd which i do not have. what do i do in this case?

i managed to get from the retailer a recovery disc that says win xp home but
it is not the microsoft cd..its the retailer's. and it does not have the Iang
files if i remeber correctly that are needed for japanese.

i even called microsoft uk for help but they are unable to tell me what to
do and they pointed again towards the retailer.

oh and i have office 2007 as well. no idea what the proofing tools are or
where they are or what i can do with them.

generally...i cannot type japanese , not even view them in some pages..only
squares...i used winn 2000 before and it all worked fine..seems strange that
xp home does not seem to have japanese language in it...am i missing
something important?

thank you...and world peace
:)
