fatal error installing xp from boot up cd

I get a fatal window installing xp to boot-up from CD. I
did this because I wanted to format my c drive.

The errors I get are Fatal error;

one of the conponents that windows needs to continue
setup could not be installed. A component's file does not
match the verification information present in the
component manifest.
In the setup log file.

It reads
Error:
SXS.DLL: Syntaxc error in manifest or policy file "H:\1386
\asms\1000\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS|GDPLUS.MANon line 4
Do I need to format the disk again?
Or is my cd bad?
Will MS provide me with a replacement?

Thank you

If you are already doing a clean install (which apparently you are) and
all peripherals are unattached and the installation is failing, you
probably have bad hardware. Start with a RAM test - I like Memtest86
from www.memtest86.com - and let the test run for an extended time,
like overnight (unless you get errors immediately). If the RAM is good,
then run a hard drive diagnostic utility, which you can get from the
drive mftr.'s website.
