skconnor

I just installed XP Home on my mom's computer and when I was finished I
installed her Juno for her. When I tried to connect it came up with the
following error message:
Connection Error 797 the port is already in use.
You cannnot connect to Juno because you are still connected to the Internet
using other ISP software.
To connect to Juno you must first disconnect and close the other ISP
software.

I dont have any other ISP software. I am stumped. Can someone please tell me
what to do!!! Thanks

It would helpful if you would explain what Juno is. A link to the
related web site would also assist. Without this information we can only
guess and any answers might not help.

Hope this helps.

Juno is an asteroid, which is not the same thing as a hemorrhoid,
although asteroid sounds like a more appropriate name for that condition.

Juno is a long-established online service that serves dialup
customers.

Googling "Juno" gets what you want on the FIRST HIT.

Errare humanum est

Juno was an ancient Roman goddess, the protector and special counselor
of the state. She is a daughter of Saturn and sister (but also the wife)
of the chief god Jupiter and the mother of Juventas, Mars, and Vulcan.
Her Greek equivalent is Hera. As the patron goddess of Rome and the
Roman empire she was called Regina ("queen") and, together with Jupiter
and Minerva, was worshipped as a triad on the Capitol (Juno Capitolina)
in Rome.

Yes I am capable of using Google but it is for skconnor to confirm what
she is referring to.

Correct. Juno was that, and also an asteroid, and also a low-cost ISP
here in the U.S. However, the original Juno is probably the one you
described.

I don't need comfirmation, because I know that she is referring to
Juno, the dialup service provider. It's clear from the other info
that she mentioned that I'm correct.

If you're so sure why not answer her question rather than direct
pointless comments to me.

This can be because the Modem conflicting with the System or the system
doesn't recognize the modem!
Try to reboot the system many times and wait for a while before trying to
establish conection.
It happened for me in the past when the modem start to be devective and
need to be changed or upgraded from your ISP (Juno). I reinstalled the modem
many times to get connection and in the end had enough I upgraded!

Steps:
- Uninstall the modem driver, unplug it from the Power and from the Phomne
line. Run disk clean up on your system and run this command:
sfc /scannow
- Reinstall the driver and connect the modem to the machine/Power
cable/Phone line and make sure the cables connected firmly and correctly.
You can contact Juno here:

<Q>
Error 797 - The modem could not be found.
This error occurs only in Windows 2000 and XP. The error can occur if the
modem is no longer visible to the system, and may be a problem related to the
modem driver, or system conflicts that cause the modem to work only some of
the time. In some cases, rebooting the machine may "solve" the problem. If
the modem is an external and is not powered on when the system is booted this
error may occur: shut-down, power on the modem & re-boot the system. If the
error persists, check to see if there is an updated driver for your modem or
speak directly to your personal pc technician.

I'm waiting for you to ask for a defrag report so I've got more to
work with.

Thanks "nass" for your mature response. Some people obviously don't mind
making others feel stupid (if you read the other responses). I'm pretty good
with a computer but by no means a "tech" and my mom is 84 and has no clue.
She only uses it to email her buddies.
So thank you for all your help and I will let you know if this works!!
