error 0x80004003 invalid pointer

I've seen several reports of this--some indicate that it is fixed by a later
scheduled scan, I think.

i've heard this is a problem with the installation engine, it's the problem
you get with BETA programs, they don't always funtion correctly, i think this
error is just a problem with the progrma it'self how ever, this doesn't stop
anything, you can still scan using the drop down list at the top of windows
defender and the message disappears, anyways, can't wait till they actually
release the proper version, it should be well good, LAVASOFT VS MICROSOFT??
which would you choose???

I have the same problem.

Question: do you have Automatic Scan disabled? I do. If you do also, that
may be the problem. (See other response to your post suggesting that a later
scheduled scan may fix problem.)

Hmm... well, I just happened upon something. On my system (check to see if
this is true for you as well), the Start Scan button which is on the page
displaying the Pointer Error msg, is broken. But if I go to the menu bar and
select Scan, it works. <!>

This issue is a bug which is known to Microsoft, but for which code
containing the fix has not yet been released. Using the Scan choice from
the menu, rather than the button, is the workaround.
