Disk Cleanup

When I select Disk Cleanup I get a dropdown box that
says "Scanning: Compress old files." I get three green
dots in the progress bar and then nothing happens. It's
hung up for some reason. When I cancel it and try it
again, it won't respond and I have to restart the PC to
even get the dropdown box again. I found the MS Knowledge
Base Article 823302, "Disk Cleanup Tool Stops Responding,"
and performed the very clear instructions on how to solve
the problem. Didn't fix the problem. Help, please.
