Disk cleanup problems

When I try to run the disk cleanup application for XP-
home, the application freezes while searching my hard-
drive. Sometimes, it doesn't even come up on my desktop
to try to run. I've followed the steps listed under:
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 823302 - to no
avail. Any suggestions?
