Disabling Messenger

I've printed out an article (302089) on how to prevent
messenger from running. I followed the instructions to a 't'.
But, msmsgs.exe keeps showing up in Task Manager
and keeps opening every 60 secs. or so. So,I went into
Program Files and found a folder called Messenger and
deleted the folder and all it's contents..
Is this the right folder to delete if I want to get rid of Messenger??

The standard method:

Run services.msc
Scroll down (on either the extended or standard tab) to the messenger
service

Right click and hit properties.

Set startup type to "disabled"

Hit OK

You are confusing the Messenger service with the Windows Messenger
program which is an instant messaging application. To disable Windows
Messenger (msmsgs.exe), go to MVP Kelly Theriot's site here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

and click on "M". Scroll down to the Messenger section for lots of
information.

Thanks to all for all the advice. I have event sounds for several
windows events and one is for the Open Program event. That
thing was triggering every 60 seconds and I did all I could to
disable messenger. It was getting very frustrating. In fact messenger
was pissing me off big time!

Thanks again,
James
