Dial up modems

I recently built a new system and migrated from my old w2k to wxp pro
sp2. my old modem worked fine in the new system for few days and then
quit after I installed and updated CA Security Suite 2007 v3. Now I
am unable to get any modem, in any PCI slot to work (I have tried 2
new ones) including a serial external modem to work. The sympton is
that the dialler says it is dialing but I hear no noise from the modem
and eventually it fails sayiong the is no dial tone (not true) or the
destination server was not available. I am going nuts here. CA says
my old Norton AV may be causing a conflict, even tho' I uninstalled it
before loading CA. Any thoughts?

Have you searched for any remnants of Norton on your system? I understand it is
a bear to completely clean out, and frequently the cause of such problems.

Looks like "CA Security Suite 2007 v3" is the culprit. Go to their website
for Help and/or Tech support. It may have a FAQ section. You could(?)
try a System Restore to before you installed the CA Security Update.
