Dial-UP Networking issues

I don't know when this started, but on my WinXP SP2 laptop, for some reason I
cannot add any new connections that use dial-up of any kind. My system
recognizes the modem just fine. I can use hyperterminal and connect to the
modem and try and dial something just fine. When I start the networking
wizard to add a new connection and do it manually, the option to add a
dial-up connection is greyed out and not available.
Is there a service that needs to be running? I can add new network
connections that use the NIC just fine and can do that till the cows come
home. It's just when trying to do it with dial-up connections that it hits a
wall.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.

Click Start> Run, type: msconfig |Click OK|
Click the Services tab, scroll down and see if Telephony is checkmarked and if it
shows a status of Running. If it is not running, and not checkmarked, check it,
click OK and restart. Then look again.....if it is now running, try to create a DUN
connection again.

If it is not running or has become unchecked again, click Start> Control Panel,
double-click Administrative Tools, then Services.
Scroll down and double-click Telephony in the list. On the General tab, set the
Start-up Type dropdown list to Manual, and click Apply. Then click the Start button
to start the service. Click OK and close the open windows.

Post back with your results. If these don't help, you may have to follow the
