Dial Up Networking

S

Simon Lahey

I have lost my dial up networking option from my network connections on
my home PC. This in means I have lost all connectivity to the internet
through my broadband modem.

I have done a lot of research today trying to track down the reason but
have had no joy.

When I try to add dial up networking, the option is greyed out, with
just the broadband option displayed.

Microsoft support pointed me to a telephony error, which was located
through Services and Applications. However this did not resolve the
problem, displaying the following error

"Could not start the telephony service on local computer.

Error 126: The specified module could not be found."

I am running SP2 with all the latest updates. If anyone could help me I
would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance

Simon

This might help:

Dial-Up Modem or PPPoE is Unavailable (Line 87)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double-click
it and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in
Notepad by right-clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Standard checkpoints:

Go to Start/Administrative Tools/Services. Set these three to
"Automatic": Remote Access Connection Manager, Remote Access Auto
Connection Manager, Telephony.

Try this (also from Kelly's Korner):

Manual Edit: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP
Delete the sub-keys listed except 13 and 4.

Standard Checkpoints: Go to Start/Administrative Tools/Services. Set
these three to "Automatic": Remote Access Connection Manager, Remote
Access Auto Connection Manager and Telephony.
