Not able to create dial-up connection

After reinstalling XP Home I lost my dial-up connection, When I try to
create a new connection and work through New Connection Wizard I get to the
page "Internet Connection" which has 3 choices "Connect using dial-up"
"Connect using Broadand..." and "Connect using broadband connection..." Only
the 3rd options is available which leads to a window that says your broadband
is already connected. The problem is I don't have a broadband
modem/connection and want the 1st option but it isn't available. Done the
modem checks - modem works fine Is there a way to create a dial-up
connection without using the wizard? Any other ways to resolve this problem.
I reloaded XP again just to make sure. Everything worked fine with the
modem even during the reload when it prompted to go online to get XP updates.

Had the same trouble myself but was advised to check that the telephony
service was started, it wasn't. So went to start menu/all
programmes/administrative tools/services/telephony, set it to manual, and
bingo! all options available.

Yes - the Telephony Service needs to be set to 'Manual' and checked on that
it has been started.

HI Thanks so much for your help. The "telephony" was set to "manual" and was
"started" so I deleted the "keys" from the"registry" as described in
?kbid=329441 and it worked!

Hi. Am having the same problem. I tried all the methods listed below, yet the
problem persists.

If you are still working on this problem, suggest that you try setting the
"remote access----" to manual as well (under admin tools). That fixed my
problem.

As I understand it, this problem only happen to XP Professional during
upgrading either to SP2 or SP1. MS should warn users about this nightmarish
situation. HP Tech Service support suggestted "restore the computer". I can't
believe they are such an incompetent bunch to recommend wiping out the hard
drive and start anew.
