deleting backgrounds in display properties

A friend of mine used my computer and changed my background with a picure on
my computer. Now all of my pictures show up on my 'display properties' under
the desktops background. I don't want all of these there. Is there any way
to remove them from the available backgrounds?

Sure. Windows XP fetches image files from the following paths:

BMP Files from C:\WINDOWS

BMP, JPG, GIF, JPE, DIB, PNG, HTM files from the following locations:

C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\My Documents\My Pictures [& ALL
THE SUB-FOLDERS]
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes [*** & ALL THE SUB-FOLDERS ***]

Make a new folder in My Documents - *not* in My Pictures - and call it
something you like, maybe "Pictures". ;-) Now go to the My Pictures
folder and move your own images into the new Pictures folder you just
made. They will no longer show up in the list of available Desktop
backgrounds. When you want to use one of them, simply click the Browse
button in the Display applet>Desktop tab and navigate to your folder.
