Deleted items

How do I stop it from asking me if I am sure I want to permanently delete a
message every time I delete a message. I have looked in the tools area with
no success.

It will only ask for confirmation if you delete from the Deleted Items folder.
I purge that folder only once a week so the request for confirmation doesn't
bother me.
There is no known way to inhibit that delete confirmation.
If you want, you can configure WM to empty the Deleted Items folder
automatically when you exit the program: Tools, Options, Advanced, Maintenance.

In MS Outlook, if I never ever wanted/needed to see a message again, I would
use shift+delete and it would not go to the delete box. I saved the delete
box for those who I might deed to go back to later. When I usxe shift+delete
on this new Windows Mail, it asks for a confirmation each time. That is a
pain! I, too, want to know how to PERMANENTLY delete an EM so that it does
not even go to the delete box/trash.

This isn't what's happening to me & apparenty to others. I'm reading an
email, finish reading it & hit the red X like I've always done & all of a
sudden, today a box pops up asking me if I want to permanantly delete the
message. I've never had this happen before & I'm not in the Deleted Items
folder.

So which folder are you in when this happens?
Perhaps you are confusing newsgroup messages and email
messages. The former will always throw up a warning because it is
not normal to delete newsgroup messages like that.
I've never had that warning with normal email.

I get the confirm message when I delete anything out of the inbox or deleted
items, either one.

Very strange! With email messages I only get that confirmation request
when deleting from Deleted Items. I have no idea why yours is different.

I am looking for info on how to delete a block of messages at one time rather
than each individually? I would also like the answer to 'Karp's' question.

If you don't quote everything that has been suggested so far, you're
likely to get the same advice over and over from those of us who
can't easily go back to previous messages in the thread.

Download and install this hotfix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders suck as Deleted Items. If you don't know whether you
have a 32-bit version of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for
the 32-bit version first, but if that refuses to install, also try the
hotfix
for the 64-bit version. If both refuse to install, try the Vista SP1
update as well if you haven't installed it already. Certain common
antivirus programs, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee,
tend to cause stuck messages and other problems in Windows
Mail, so if you have such a program, keep this reply in case you
need to try fixing the same problem again. A recent version of the
Trend antivirus program also causes assorted problems in Windows
Mail.

If you have run the fix, removed Norton, you should be able to go into the DELETE folder and select and delete the messages manually. Does that not work? If that doesn't do it, you may have to go to the delete file folder itself and delete the whole folder and then put an empty one back.

So far you have prevented further problems but you need to FIX the one already crated. You have two options:

1) Go to that link and run the fix program they have there. Manually go to Deleted items folder and delete the messages hung there. Rename the store folder location in TOOLS>OPTIONS - warning this works but it ERASES ALL email folders! If that is too draconian for your tastes, then go use Explorer to find the DELETE folder on the drive and rename the Delete folder, put back a new one and then delete the renamed old folder.

OR!!!

2) Stop screwing with WinMail because it's gong to screw itself up again sooner or later and go online to MSN and download their FREE Windows Live Mail. It's a better app for Vista anyway.

Your choice! What's it going to be? Oh, BTW, when you install WLM, it automatically imports all your old messages so nothing is lost.

If you tried installing the 32-bit version of this hotfix and it refused to
install, also try the 64-bit version. If that also refuses to install, then
try the Vista SP1 update, but expect that to take longer to install.

If you used the standard install for AVG, try uninstalling it, then doing a
custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that scans email.

Two things:
Norton often does not uninstall cleanly, so you should follow up with
their special removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Secondly, AVG must be installed using the 'custom' install. If you used
the default standard install, uninstall it, then reinstall using the custom
install option, which then gives you the opportunity to *not* install the
troublesome mail scanning module.
