It's a tough thing when you're doing a review of a distribution that you want to like but end
up having to pan it. The latest version of Ubuntu Linux is called Feisty Fawn, and about all I
can see it being good for is venison. We found it to be a real stinker in some ways, despite
past versions of Ubuntu having been fairly good.

Sigh. Obviously the writer of the story has not investigated or asked
for help with Ubuntu. He didn't even know about automatix2. Had he known
about it, he wouldn't have had the problems he had.

Nice try but no cigar.

I have server level linux distros installed with

So what's your linux excuse now? Seems all you have is that anyone with
linux problems is not smarter then an 8 year old.
Yawn.

And saying people are dumber then a 8 year old isn't?

Dumb and ignorant are two different things. Some people are both. If the
shoe fits ...
Calling people
pathetic?

I called the effort pathetic, which it was.
Why is it you can insult people left and right but when you
are insulted you act like a little b!itch about it?

Wow, it's nice to know that you insult both the Windows and Linux community.
That explains why you have no friends.

Typical, you always ignore direct FACTS when it comes to how wrong you were.

Wow, talk about denial! I'm surprised you didn't call the reviewer a liar
and claim that he never actually installed Ubuntu.

Excuses excuses excuses....

Automatix is a graphical interface for automating the installation of the
most commonly requested applications in Debian based Linux operating
systems.

It has nothing to do with display issues, network issues, codec issues, it
does not fix problems with the Windows Migration Tool. So NO alias, that
would not have helped him or the many other people that have had problems.

how it fixes problems with the Windows Migration Tool.

Since you very specifically told us that Automatix2 would have fixed his
problems, meaning ALL his problems.

You are really no different than those you accuse of the very same.

I guarantee you, Jim Lynch knows far more about Linux than you
ever will. So, he didn't like the new Ubuntu... did that hurt your feelings
in some way? Make you cry? Cause that's how you act. Which is really
no different than some of the Windows dorks that spout non-stop or get
all bent out of shape if you criticize Vista/Microsoft.... you just spew for your
point of view. Which comes across as a borderline obnoxious fanatic.

Oh, I reckon Jim was out of his mind when he wrote this review;
<quote>
Overall, I had a great experience with Ubuntu. I found the desktop environment comfortable and
easy to use. The application selection was quite good and I had the option to add plenty of
other applications if I wanted to. The installer worked well, and I even got to try Ubuntu via
the Live CD without actually installing a thing.

I wasn't trying to do anything. Perhaps, you could have offered up a
well thought out opinion of your own, instead you become defensive and
attack the author. That sounds all too familiar. You are nothing but
a hypocrite, Alias. A persistent one, but a hypocrite none the less.
As I said, you are no different than those you accuse... that's just the way
a fanatic is- they're all for voicing opinions, just don't voice it against whatever
their sacred beliefs are. Pitiful, just like the rest of them.

Sorry, but as usual, you are not correct. Automatix is made specifically for
Ubuntu and Mepis. It won't work with Debian at all, nor any other Debian
based distro then the 2 I've named.
It has nothing to do with display issues, network issues, codec issues,

Sorry, again you're wrong. Automatix is designed specifically to assist in
issues like display drivers and easy installation of codecs.

it
does not fix problems with the Windows Migration Tool.

Many have NO need for a Windows Migration tool. We don't have any Windows to
migrate from.
So NO alias, that
would not have helped him or the many other people that have had problems.

And you, who know so little about Linux, couldn't have helped either. But
you are good at spreading your bullshit and FUD.

I still have Ubuntu 6.06 on another computer's partition. I have not
tried 7.04, yet. I also have not installed Automatix2. I had actually thought
about it a few weeks ago and had found some of the better instructions on
how to install it at http://www.howtoforge.com/automatix_ubuntu
I just haven't had the time, and I've been playing around with Longhorn Server.
When I do try both of them, I'll let you know... count on it.

Many times those that take a hard stand become inflexible,
stubborn, defensive, think they are being attacked when
someone offers an opinion, and sees enemies where there
are not any.... think George Bush.

Even though a lot of what you say is true, you come across
as rigid and quite fanatical. It's really not necessary to get
your point across. Your actions have probably done more
to hurt your message than help.

I'm not going to get into some useless back and forth with
you, there are others here that will oblige that addiction.

Just one last thing- Have you installed Vista? Have you used it?

If you want to discuss this any further, take it to email, mine
is valid temporary one.

Take care,

Michael

Is this the same Jim Lynch, Wintard supreme that had this to say?

http://www.jimlynch.com/

The moron wasn't prepared to tweak anything and expected EVERYTHING to work
right after an install with Feisty. He should know that he had to tweak his
Windoze and even go out and find drivers for it. But with Feisty, he was
too lazy to try.

BTW, yesterday I installed Ubuntu Feisty on one of my laptops. Unlike
Lynch's experience, ALL worked right out of the box ... video setup
properly, wireless worked, sound worked, everything worked. Easiest install
I've ever done. Took all of 30 minutes. I installed it as a dual-boot with
Ubuntu Dapper and it even allowed me to import my Firefox settings from the
other o/s during install.

Jim, a lifelong PC/Windows user, has become more involved with
Linux and generally has many positive things to say about Ubuntu,
and Linux, overall.
Yet, you attack him because you feel his review isn't glorious enough.
Even though he is making real attempts at using Linux flavors and giving
them good press, most of the time.

That sounds exactly like what a few Windows fanatics say whenever a user
has a problem. "Works for me, must be your fault." No difference, except the
banner for which you spew your nescience.

Sorry, but the problems your hero had are not problems that can't be
solved and solved a lot easier than searching for Windows drivers,
installing .Net just to run an ATI card, etc.

Doris is spot on and you're just being an apologist for someone who
didn't do their homework before installing Feisty Fawn.

I wasn't suggesting that because it worked so well on my laptop that would
be the case for everyone. I simply reported my first encounter with Ubuntu
Feisty. My laptop obviously contained hardware that was supported by Ubuntu
Feisty, right out of the box. Lynch's hardware obviously had some problems.
All could have been overcome in his case, had he attempted to get things
working. But he didn't. He tried it, felt that getting something as simple
a flash working in his browser shouldn't require any further effort and
shit on the distro. He's obviously a moron or just felt he'd write
a "review" that was easy to hammer out to keep his name in lights.
