Defining "Elegant"

If that's so, then there's been a new distro released that no one
else has ever heard of. One some distros, you're lucky if you can get
the mouse and video (above a 16-color, 640x400 display, that is) working
at the same time. This I know from first-hand experience.

You've installed Ubuntu? Sure. I just installed Feisty Fawn 7.04 and
everything works. It took me all of a little less than two hours to
install the OS and all the programs I wanted. Video at 1280x1024 on an
old CRT LG Flatron monitor. Sound, mouse, keyboard all work great.

Nope. Never claimed I had, as yet. But I didn't realize that Ubuntu
is the only existing Linux distro. When did that happen?

Good for you. But what about your statements in another thread that
your printer and fax still weren't working after two months? I know
you've subsequently resolved the issue, but that doesn't erase it from
history.

It's the happening distro. Try it.

Nor does the fact that I also posted that I just didn't get around to it
and, when I did, it was a piece of cake. Setting up a fax in Windows
takes a bit of configuration too, yaknow, as does a printer.

Vista automatically installed the correct printer drivers for my Canon &
Epson printers. The Canon's are circa '03 and the Epson's are '05. FAX
is only a matter of entering needed info, i.e., name, phone# and station
id.
Obviously it is not your professed love of all things linux that keeps
you here (along with the "other" linux losers) but is your deep seated
hatred of all things MS.

Then all those thousands of users of that unnamed distro must be all running
at 640x400 (actually 480 is the correct vertical resolution). I think not.
The problem isn't with the distro, it's with the guy sitting between the
keyboard and the chair. In this case, it was you.

"Happening?" I've never thought of an OS as a fashion statement or
fad, but rather as a tool. Different perspectives, I guess.

Two or three mouse clicks, yes.

And who is that always accused Windows defenders of blaming the user?
Pot, meet kettle; kettle, pot. (And it was the video drivers that
proved to be bad. Just what one would expect from something cobbled
together by a group of strangers for use on an OS cobbled together by a
larger bunch of strangers. That's another one of Open Sources
weaknesses: no quality control, by design.)

He loves to praise ubuntu. Fact is, the 6.x version failed to load my video
card and this new 7.x version wont even install.

Linux for desktop can take a flying leap! I went to the launch party today
for Forefront and System Center and all I can say is WOW!!!! Linux is about
as centrally manageable as my old corded phone when compared to everything
being released now for Windows.

I don't hate "all things" MS. I like XP and use it every day, albeit
less and less than before. The initial reason I began to consider Linux
was due to the WPA, WGA, WGA/N, DRM and SPP "anti piracy" crap. Had MS
never instituted that crap, I would have never, ever, even thought
about, much less install and use, Linux. You may think I am weird but
being accused of piracy and having to prove my innocence not once, not
twice, but three times was just too much.

Once I installed Linux Ubuntu 6.06, I was pleasantly surprised at how
user friendly it is and how *everything* on your computer is updated
through the Ubuntu update. It was also refreshing to find out I didn't
have to have an AV or a software firewall hogging up resources and that
I didn't have to constantly be updating anti malware programs such as
Spybot and AdAware. Then, yesterday, I installed the new version, 7.04
and am even more pleasantly surprised at the improvements over 6.06.

I guess you've never set up a fax in XP. What are the steps?

All the MS staff are friends of yours that you would trust or are they
"strangers"? The only control I see with MS is "piracy" control.

To help people who are frustrated with Vista's intrusive "anti piracy"
features, DRM, virus/malware susceptibility, UAC, etc. find a viable
alternative of course!

And talk about "cobbled together". Has there ever been a more cobbled
together thing on this planet than Windows? It's proven to be spaghetti
code with crap left over from previous versions that go way back.

These Wintards think that they have some direct connection to the Windows
developers. Shit, even Microsoft can't figure out its own code for Windows
because of the thousands of programmers that have patching this bloatware
together over the years.

You're nothing but an angry, frustrated, hate filled troll. These are
the common traits that define you and your fellow linux trolls. You
don't actually believe that anyone believes you're here to help someone
find a viable alternative to Vista do you?
Then again, that's probably a rationalization you must use to believe
what you believe.
Fooling one's self is the easiest fool of all.
