Connecting to Internet

How do I stop my PC from connecting to the internet
automatically? I have unchecked the automatically connect
box on the Dial Up Connection Box. I have unchecked
the "redial line if dropped box in the properties box.
When I disconnect from the internet and let the PC go on
Standby, the next time I check e-mail or use the computer
for some other reason, it is already connected.
Anyone have any solutions on how to stop this from
happening?
