Com Ports and Palm Pilot -Hot Sync Manager

Gail

My Palm viiw is plugged into a serial port on my PC. My
Palm has fresh batteries in it. I am not able to sync
either way- from PC or from Handheld. Once I press the
sync button on my handneld, it tries to connect, but then
I get a message:
The connection between your handheld computer and the
desktop could not be established because COM1 port is
busy. When the port is free, hotsync manager will be
connected.

Are you sure that Com1 is mapped to the serial port and not the modem or
another peripheral? You can try the setup function in HotSynch manager
to change the com port. Have you updated the Palm Desktop to the latest
version? It has better WinXP support.

Thanks very much for your reply. I have checked COM1 in
the devicae manager and I get a message: Windows has
stopped this device because it has reported problems.
(Code 43) -- I tried uninstall and reinstall and it is
still not available. I have no modem and the printer is
connected to LPT1

Try removing the port from device manager, then reboot. It should be
detected on the next boot and the driver installed. You should also
check BIOS setup to verify that the port is enabled and has the default
parameters for com1.
