COM Port conflict - Palm

M

Mark Stephan

Hi all,
Thanks in advance!

I recently upgraded my XP pro to XP SP2. After doing
that, my palm pilot (palm V connected to the 9 pin com
port in the back of my desktop) cannot sync anymore. It
comes back as "com port not available". When looking at
the device manager, COM1 appears to be available and
working normally. I downloaded a cheap COM
port "evaluation" tool, and it said that the com port was
busy. I can't find what might be making it busy, as there
isn't anything else plugged into the port, and msinfo32
said there were no conflicts. I can disable the port
through device manager, reboot, enable it, and can sync
then, but if I reboot it goes back to unavailable.

I'm planning on getting a usb docking station, but would
like to free up the COM as if I needed to plug anything in
there it would still fail.

Any suggestions how to a) either figure out what is
actually using it or b) ways to fix it so that whatever is
using it releases it?

Thanks!!!
-Mark

Try to delete the "/fastdetect" switch from the boot.ini file. Update the
BIOS if possible. Install latest Palm Desktop software, update Palm OS if
available, and consult www.palmone.com.
