Cannot get palm m515 to hot sync or use infrared hot sync

I have loaded my palm m515 software and I am not able to hot sync to download from the handheld to laptop. Additionally when I try to use an infrared hot sync I get a message that syas "unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application. Can anyone hel
