cd writing

since installing a new dvd writer, i can nolonger write to cd's from the xp
cd writing wizard. it fails at cannot continue window. it worked ok before i
fitted the dvd writer, i had a cd writer, i have also installed sp2! can
anyone help.

Hi,

Chances are, the DVD writing software that was supplied with the new burner
disabled the native writing program (the Imapi burning service). This would
be normal to prevent conflicts. Click start/run, type msconfig and click ok.
Go to the Services tab to check.

hi rick, thanks for replying, but done that & still nogo. cd seems to be on
in msconfig but wizard still says cannot complete. I did not load any
software with the new dvd, it found it auto& loaded win drivers!. it worked
ok with the cd writer!

Hi,

Did this replace the CD writer, or was it in addition to it? Also, in order
to write to DVD's, you will have to install DVD writing software, as the
native writer does not support that format. It only does CD's. Once
installed, you will not be able to use the XP writing software anyways
(besides, it is a very limited writing program and third party ones are
almost always better).

Hi, yes it did replace the cd writer,I had nero installed before & everything
worked ok, but now the xp cd writer does not work, but nero will write dvd's
ok!& using nerom to copy files & downloads is a pain.

I've done somemore checking & it seems that xp cd writer does not recognise
my dvd writer as a cd writer? Does anyone know of a solution or do I have to
fit both cd & dvd writers

I have reinstalled my cd writer(slave) to the dvd writer. but still no joy,cd
writer is set to write cd's & Imapi service is on, wizard still fails
complete.

I have now removed Nero from my system, I have a cd writer & dvd writer as
master & slave, and only the XP cd writing software installed & still the cd
writing wizard fails at "cannot complete window". This as only happened since
the installation of service pack 2
