What happens when your try to delete it?
Can you delete it with the Preview Pane turned off?

In Windows Mail, unknown errors and undeletable messages are often
due to interference from an antivirus program, antispyware program, or
antispam program. What if any of these programs do you have, and
have you ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus program installed on
that machine?

You can usually get a temporary fix by downloading and installing this
hotfix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. The Vista SP1 update also provides a temporary fix,
but takes longer to install.

I've tried over and over to delete the mail in my Deleted items folder.
Obviously, from what I've read, others are having the same problem. When I
see their messages begging for assistance, I can't read/see any replies.

Which particular problem would that be? I don't see a problem statement
form you in the message thread you quoted (below).
What have you tried so far?

were you able to do that wih spam mail , also in responce to 486 message< I
had to go into my web mail and found 486 messages in my junk e-mail and 687
in my inbox, I think when you have windows mail you still need to tend to
your web mail cause sometimes they don't go thru to windows mail

Note the part in the response that says "Although it only mentions
messages stuck in the Outbox, it will take care of stuck messages
in other folders also."
