cant connect to update

Since I started connecting to the internet with cable modem microsoft
antispyware update will no longer work. I get error msg. cant connect to
internet..
Is there a configuration file someware I can modify?

start
all programs
accessories
communications
new connection wizard
next
connect to the internet
next
set up my connection manually
next
connect using a broadband connection that is always on
Finish
