Microsoft Antispyware can't update definitions

I have a dial-up connection and am connected online but Microsoft Antispyware
Beta can't update definitions. I get a message that the updater can not
connect to the internet. I have no problems connecting to the internet with
any other programs. By the way, my modem is connected to COM3.

Any assistance appreciated.

Hi Mike;

*Update with third party firewall
Customers with software firewalls need to grant access to the programs below in
order to keep Microsoft AntiSpyware up to date as well as upload unknown threats
to the spynet community.

GiantAntiSpywareMain.exe
gcasDtServ.exe
MicrosoftAntiSpywareUpdater.exe
gcasServAlert.exe

Customers with hardware firewalls only need to verify ports 80 and 443 are open.

Also, is your Internet Explorer or Outlook Express set to work off-line or
on-line? Please check in the File menu of Internet Explorer or Outlook Express
the "Work off-line" option should not be checked

Let us know if either of these fixes got you updating... and which one helped if
they did. Thanks

Thanks Dave and Allen. Temporarily disabling Symantec Client Frewall during
a manual update worked!

Thanks again,

Micro Mike
