blocked com port

Antispyware deleted a file and now the internet
connection wont work. The modem will not make a dial
tone, as the COM3 port seems to be missing in action. Any
suggestions? How do I get my Com port working again?

Katherine, Can you tell us what type of modem is being used? Can you remove
the modem in Add/Remove programs and also Device Manager and then re-install
the driver for the modem?

This is a new one. Can you try the standard fix for loss of Internet
connectivity, just in case:
