Can't Connect Through Ethernet

D

Disco

Using WINXP Pro and IE7.0
I can connect to wireless networks no problem, but can't seem to get my
ethernet connection to connect (ie: through hotel connections). No matter
what setup I use it keeps trying to dial a connection when I start IE
instead of simnply accessing the LAN.
At home, I can connect the laptop to the desktop, I can transfer files back
and forth, remotely access my printer but cannot connect into the internet
through the desktop.
This has to be a setting with IE? I've run WINXP network wizard 100 times:
is there a setting within IE where it should automatically detect the LAN
when connected through ethernet?
Thanks
