cannot copy big files

Allan Lind

I'm trying to copy some large files (~5GB) to an external
hard drive (I have the same problem on a usb2.0 and a
firewire hard drive). When I click "paste" I get a
message that says "Cannot copy [filename]: There is not
enough free disk space" (and some stuff about runnign
disk cleanup). There is plenty of disk space (~200GB),
so that is not the problem. Can anyone offer any advice
or suggestions? Thanks!

If, repeat IF, memory serves me, you are limited to 4Gb in file size when
copying or moving.

Assuming that the external hard drive is FAT32, you're running up
against the FAT32 limit of 4GB file size.

Thanks, Ken. In fact the external drive is FAT-32.
