Cannoy copy large files in XP

Is there any way I can copy - move, large avi files (~12G) from XP desk
top to external Seagate 400G drive. My connection is via firewire.
These are raw video downloads from a camcorder.
When I try, I get a message that says "Cannot copy [filename]: There
is not
enough free disk space" (and some stuff about running disk cleanup).
There is plenty of disk space (~290GB).
Also this same mesage appears if I try to copy to the same hard drive
with ~49G free space.

Thanks in advance.

Format the external drive with NTFS.
FAT32 - which they are undoubtedly formatted with - has a file size limit of
4GB.

If the last posted suggestion does not work, or if you would prefer not to
re-format the drive, try this:

If you have Norton Ghost or similar, you could make an image of this large
file (with various compresion rate options and even a "split file" option)
which would surely be smaller than the raw and then try your transfer again.
Or, try a file-splitting program; there are many. Of course, make sure your
split files can be stitched together and read before you delete the old files.

Let us know how it works.
