Error copying very large file to external usb hard drives

I am running winxp pro and am trying to copy a 7gig file from the c:
drive to an external usb2.0 hard drive. The drive works fine copying
smaller files, but I get an error "Error Copying File or Folder..
Cannot Copy There is not enough free disk space. The external drive
has over 100 gigs free space when I check properties. I swapped with
a larger external drive (200 gigs free) and got the same message. So
I know both external drives work fine, but can't copy the file. I can
copy it to another folder on the same internal drive.

Any ideas what to do? I haven't run into this one before. Not sure
of any limitations on file size transfer.

Thanks
tom

You'll have to format your external drive using NTFS
as the file system. A FAT32 drive cannot handle the
transfer of files exceeding 4GBs.
