cannot copy large files

I'm trying to copy some large files (~5GB) to an external
hard drive (I have the same problem on a usb2.0 and a
firewire hard drive). When I click "paste" I get a
message that says "Cannot copy [filename]: There is not
enough free disk space" (and some stuff about runnign
disk cleanup). There is plenty of disk space (~200GB),
so that is not the problem. Can anyone offer any advice
or suggestions? Thanks!

this may not work, but I have noticed when copying large files anywhere's
using the right click to copy sometimes fails. I have better luck selecting
the item(s) then using the edit key to "copy to folder" to do the transfer.
maybe that will help?

What file system are you using on the external USB drive? FAT-32 has
a file limit of around 4gb so if you're trying to move a 5gb file to a
drive formatted to FAT-32, it's not going to work. Reformat or
convert your external USB drive to NTFS and it will work.

.
Thanks. In fact the external drive is FAT-32. I'll try
converting and see if it works.
