Auto-login to Messenger 5.0?

Tim

I seem to have lost the feature that automatically logs
me in to Windows Messenger 5.0 when it starts up. I used
to have this work with Messenger 4.7 and assume I messed
something up when I initially installed 5.0, and it is
preventing me from being automatically logged in.

I have these Windows Messenger 5.0 options checked:
- Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts
- Allow Windows Messenger to run in the background

Windows Messenger starts and is running in the background
after I boot up, but I have to click on the Messenger
icon in the tray to open the Messenger window and then I
must manually click on "Click here to sign in" to get
logged in.

I would like to be logged in automatically. How can I
reset Windows Messenger to do this? Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem; can find no way of
fixing it at all. Searched the internet, the seems to be
no fix. I will probably downgrade to 4.7 and then try
reinstalling to see if this works.

Hi James -

I'm hoping Jonathan Kay, who is the Microsoft MVP -
Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger, Associate Expert, for
this newsgroup, or another group member, might have an
answer.

I've been reading this newsgroup for several days and he
and others in the group have done a great job answering
most of the questions I've seen.

I didn't send my question till later in the day on
Friday, and with it being Halloween, I figured Jonathan
might be out "Trick or Treating", so maybe he'll answer
in the next day or two. Check back to see if he posts
something here.

Regards,
