annoying advanced directory

I thought I was paying attention.
Customer asks you to install W2k server. With W2k AD is the NT4 PDC option.
(Keyword is option you don't have to install NT4 as a domain controller and
you don't have to install W2k as Active Directory controller.) You don't
want AD you want something simple. You can't install NT4 no drivers for tape
etc so you want to install Linux with Samba, assume drivers available for
Linux?
Your question was how do I get rid of AD, easy, run DCPROMO but does the
customer need a domain controlled login environment (you don't say) if so
DCPORMO gets rid of domain if this is the only DC server.
You also mentioned
"I cant add users for shares (from the domain list) since we are with W2k
Advanced Server. I see them , but I cant add them"
In a normal AD setup with workstations and standalone servers being members
of the AD then there is no problem adding domain users to shares.
So have you got an existing domain and then you have setup this new W2K
server and chosen to create another domain with it and so cause yourself
problems.
