i was in the middle of downloading Norton Antivirus 2006 when an error
message came up stating it could not finish the download due to a corrupt or
missing file. When the install stopped all my files changed to .lnk files.
I have tried the doug knox website but i can not click on the zip files
because nothing is working. i have tried to import the zip folder assoc file
but the registry tells me it cannot import C:\Documents and
Setting\Owner\Desktop\zipfolder_fix.reg: Not all data was successfully
written to the registry. Some keys were open by the system of other processes.
I can not do a system restore because when you are in safe mode it does not
come up.
I have tried to repair windows installation but that does not work.
I can not get into anything at all except internet explorer.
Someone please help me! I do not want to have to do a reinstall of win xp.
Also, please give me step by step directions.

System Restore should come up in safe mode. In fact, when you start Safe
Mode, you should get a dialog asking if you would like to use Restore.

To try the fix you had with the zip file, hold down Shift while you
right-click the zip file. Go to "Open With" and choose your own program.
Choose "Compressed Folders"

Hi Shawn,

I've restarted in safe mode and when it asks if i want to do a system
restore i hit no because that what you have to do to start it and when i do
it the system restore never comes up. I've even tried to get system restore
up through the comman prompt but it does not come up.

Also when I shift and right click on the file on the internet I only see
open no open with. I saved the file on to the desktop but I do not get an
open with.

When I click on a file nothing at all happens. I do not get a open with
program with or anything. The only thing I can get in to is the internet and
the registry.
