Added software and now it says a dll not found and leaves me with a blank screen

This appears to be a tough one for folks out there. I
added software to my laptop (WindowsME). When I
restarted nothing
came up except something about explorer.exe. I clicked
ok and then it said c:\windows\system\shlwapi.dll not
found. I clicked ok again but it just freezes there. I
added the missing file from another computer and it will
come up a little farther but still no desktop, just the
background.
Also tried the recovery disk, using restore from the
previous day and it didn't help.
Can anyone please help with this one?

Hi, Dan - this is a Windows 2000 applications group; not the best place for
your question. If you can't boot up in safe mode and uninstall the software
that seems to have caused this problem, try posting in a Windows ME group
for more help.
