After starting my computer the following error message is displayed:
Explorer.exe- Entry Point Not Found "The procedure entry point
SHCreateThreadRef could not be located in the dynamic link library
SHLWAPI.dll." After I click OK a blank start up page is displayed and I
cannot take any other action. Any help on fixing this is much appreciated.

We are having the same problems. We had two pc's go down after
yesterday's 10-13-04 Microsoft's critical updates. We haven't found a
fix yet, hopefully someone somewhere(Microsoft) can come up with
something or we'll have to wipe the pc's and start over. Those
critical updates are worse than virus/spyware.

We tried using the start up disk but really its just a big mess. There is
comfort in numbers though so hopefully we can get a fix soon! I really dont
have any idea on who to contact to make them aware of the problem, if they
arent already...

I have the same problem. What I did was a repair from the Windows XP CD. I
was able to recover the desktop. Although I had an error upon restart, my cd
software doesn't work, and the system is slower. Microsoft told me I
shouldn't have done the repair. I should have gone to the control panel
(control.exe) through the task manager and removed the updates. Although, I
couldn't get it to work and got the "no entry point found" when I tried it.

I am in the process of reapplying service pack 2 and hoping the problems
will be corrected.

Microsoft said that one problem that might have led to this problem is
having the automatic download and install option set for Windows Update. It
should be set for automatic download and then notify for install. Then
disable anti-virus sofware before you install any update.

Well Hi I am Technician tried various different resolutions on this
problem where in tried recovering system from corrupted registry
following MSKB article 307545 which fails completely this confirms
there's no specific resolution after installing updates therefore only
solution that comes to conclusion is clean installation.......Any
further resolution to this problem is eagerly awaited and highly
appreciated.....

Try doing a search in the "Windows General" box for the error message. I
believe that there is a repair available. I did have the same
problem...however found the repair after I reloaded Windows, which I found
out later that I was not suppose to do.....oh well & good luck.

I did a repair from the Windows XP CD, reinstalled service pak 2 and other
windows updates. I had to reinstall drivers for the audio and CD software.
